About FamilyTree Free
FamilyTree Free is a free family tree that runs in your browser. There is no account and no server holding your tree: people, photos and notes are stored only in your browser, and you back them up as a file on your own device.
Who runs it
FamilyTree Free is run by Serdar Thomas Freimoser in Munich, Germany. Address and contact details are in the imprint.
Why your data stays on your device
A family tree holds names, birth dates, photos and sometimes stories that are nobody else's business. Data that is never uploaded cannot be lost, sold or analysed. That is why the app stores everything locally (IndexedDB) and leaves the backup to you as a file. The trade-off, stated plainly: if you clear your browser data without a backup, the tree is gone.
How the website itself handles data β hosting, statistics only with consent β is set out in the privacy policy.
How the articles back up what they say
Where a guide, a magazine piece or a profile states facts β about archives, laws, figures or history β it ends with a βSourcesβ section listing links and the date they were checked. How-to pieces that only describe working with the app or with your family do not need one.
